Overfed and Undernourished

Overfed and Undernourished –seem to be contradictory in nature.

How can one be overfed yet be undernourished? How can a person eat more than enough food and still lack adequate nutrition?

overfed and undernourished

We are eating more energy-dense foods than eve before, yet starving our bodies of nutrients. We are feeding our hunger but our nourishing our bodies?

Consuming more than enough calories to support the daily energy needs from sources low in essential nutrients, leaves many people overfed in calories and undernourished in micro nutrients. Much of today’s western diet is made up of processed foods, the nutrients of which are lost as it is being processed into food like products, to subsequently be fortified with synthetic vitamins and minerals that are artificially added back in.

We are becoming obsessed with labels, calories, carbs and fat, but truth is that most nutritious food does not have a label, because it does not come from a box or a packet. It does not really matter if you eat 1,000 calories, or 3,000 calories, what matters is WHERE YOUR CALORIES COME FROM!

It is very hard to eat an excessively high in calories diet when you are eating “whole” foods, meaning foods found in nature: vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, raw nuts and seeds, good fats like: avocado, raw coconut and extra virgin olive oil or grape seed oil, some wild caught fish and a very limited (if any) amount of free range-naturally fed-pasture raised lean meat, poultry and eggs.

Eating foods that are found in nature will undoubtedly result a healthier, happier, thriving you. As natural food balances the gut, bloating and swelling are decreased, digestive issues improve, inflammation comes down, your energy will increase, you will naturally reach your optimal weight, the skin will clear up, your brain will become more alert and you will feel full of energy and be at a lower risk for dis-ease.

So, the next time you are about to put something in your mouth, take a second to think and ask yourself “what is the purpose of this food?” This can help you understand if you are eating to nourish your body or if you are eating out of habit, boredom, emotion or even thirst.

If the struggle persists make sure to book a Nutrition & Health Consultation with The Health Coach academy team to cut the vicious circle of mindless emotion driven eating and start nourishing yourself with food that are both delicious and support you health.
